An adaptable literacy initiative that responds to the unique needs of communities.
READ 360˚ has been the heart of our work since 2022, equipping parents to create strong communities, gain confidence, and become leaders who influence one another—with family literacy driving the process.
Families join a neighborhood-based community where they build relationships, participate in monthly gatherings, learn about learning and literacy to support their children’s growth, select books to build their home libraries, and connect with resources that support their children’s success. Through community events, family field trips, and informational presentations, our READ 360˚ communities offer parents individualized pathways that help families build language, strengthen literacy, and foster a lifelong love of learning.
Every month, READ 360˚ brings families together in their own neighborhoods:
Community gatherings — each Literacy Community gathers monthly at a nearby community spot to plan, connect, and share resources.
Family field trips — free outings all over Kansas City, from museums and libraries to live arts events.
Books & literacy support — free books for kids and practical tools that help families build reading habits at home.
Join a literacy community near you! Anyone can attend any gathering — and you're welcome at more than one in the same month.

The READ 360˚ program launch focused on bringing together families in their neighborhood communities to elevate their voices and help them connect and access opportunities throughout Kansas City. This innovative approach was recognized by the All-America City program of the National Civic League, in which Kansas City was a 2022 Finalist.
