A New Chapter for Turn the Page KC

As the school years moves on and attendance awareness month is over it is important that students continue to have good attendance throughout the year in order for them to continue a steady growth of learning. After the School Suspension Summit hosted by Turn the Page KC, the Kansas City, MO Health Department and the Mayor’s Office we received great feedback from the schools that attended, with several schools looking to compile more in depth reports of their own schools.

Turn the page is a community initiative that aims to increase 3rd grade reading proficiency by shining a light on relevant issues like school suspensions while also marshaling community support from families and schools. We recently held work group meetings with community leaders in education to continue increasing the number of 3rd graders reading at or above grade level.

This graph shows the progress that the Kansas City community has made so far and the goals to continue that over the next five years.

At these meetings, members of our school attendance, school readiness and summer learning work groups identified goals and priorities to guide our efforts for the next five years. We welcome any and all community members to get involved and become a part of the collaborative action network.
