Back-to-School with Books

Two-thirds of kids living in poverty in Kansas City will find themselves already lagging behind before the first day of school this year. A lack of literary resources at home makes it harder for low-income students to achieve grade-level reading proficiency, especially by the end of third grade. Students who aren’t reading on grade-level by the end of third grade are less likely to graduate high school and become successful adults.

Turn the Page KC is committed to irrigating “book deserts” — expanses of neighborhoods around our community which lack books – around our city. We’ve already distributed thousands of books this year, but there are still hundreds of homes in our community in need.

This August, consider giving the gift of reading by donating a gently used children’s book, hosting a book drive at your office, or by making a tax-deductible donation here. Just $25 can buy 10 new books for a local child in need! Book donations can be dropped off at 4049 Pennsylvania Ave #301, Kansas City, MO, Monday – Friday, 9:00 – 5:00 p.m.
